3 Events

The first event I attended was the RIIL Gymnastics Individual and Team State Meet in February in the Murray Center. My highschool team won first place and they are seen in the photo receiving their first place plaque from the Director of the league.

The second event I attended was the Open Books and Open minds conference in the student union ballroom. Presentors discussed topics like Pym, and themes within modern literature.

The third event I attended was the Chris Herren Event. Former NBA basketball player came to speak at RIC about his journey from addiction to healthy living.

Family Photo

This is a picture of all of my cousins and grandparents on my mom's side on Father's Day. My whole family got together and we had a clam boil and played games with all the little ones that were there. This is probably one of the only pictures that has all my cousins together in the same picture which makes this picture special. Framing was important in this shot because the point was to get all of us together, if the frame was more to the right or to the left some people might have gotten cut out which would defeat the purpose. What you don't see in the frame is the rest of the living room, like the table, chairs, sliding doors, and cabinets. Also, there's about 10 other family members standing behind the camera like my aunts and uncles, my parents, and family friends.  In the frame are my cousins, (Shain, Alicia, Jaylee, Quiana...etc.), my brothers, and my Grandparents. Along with the people in the frame are some other objects like a rug, chair, couch, flowers, a gold goose, a side table, window, mad even a part of the photographers finger in the top right corner of the photo. Without Framing, we would've never been able to get everyone in the shot!

To you my nightstand might seem ecclectic

But to me that is my life

With little pieces from my childhood that remind me where I started

To my college ID which reminds me where I want to go

To my favorite books and magazines that I use as my escape

And in the middle like my heart, are my friends and teammates

 

 

 

Perspective

 

Perspective changes the way you see yourself because different angles can tell different stories. For example, my first picture is of my shoes and not really of my face. Unless I told you, you might not know it was of me. Taking pictures of my shoes can seal my identity, and add a little mystery to the photo. The way my shoes are positioned can tell a story as well. Instead of both feet being planted on the ground, the shoes are at different levels which can portray uncertainty or insecurity. 

The second picture is a birds eye view of myself, clearly you can tell it's a picture of me and serves a different purpose than the first picture. Different perspectives serve diferent purposes and a slightly different angle can change the message or story the photographer is trying to display. The story of the second picture is the complete opposite of the first. The second picture is of my face and I'm smilling, a reader can assume the subject is happy or confident rather than uncertain and insecure like the first.

Although the subject in each picture is of me, different angles and perspective can change how i'm viewed and perceived by a reader. 

Venus of Urbino by Titian

     As a class, we reviewed the 1538 oil painting by Titian called Venus of Urbino. We analyzed the painting by discussing what we physically saw when we first looked at the piece, our initial feelings, what grabbed our attention, and our conclusions about the artwork. In the foreground painting is a nude women laying on a couch with pillows, sheets, and a small dog. In the background of the painting are two women, where one appears to be kneeling and the other standing over her. This particular painting raises a lot of initial questions, for example, a viewer might ask who is that women? Who are the people in the background? What's the relationship between them? Venus of Urbino can have many interpretations, one being that the nude woman has a high social or monetary status, while in the background of the painting seems to be a display of power. This piece of work displays the oblivion people of power and wealth can have towards inequality or the mistreatment of others.
      It can be assumed that the women laying nude on the couch in the forefront of the painting is wealthy due to a number of things. The most obvious reason being that she's naked on a couch being painted, which isn't a normal day activity for most people, also taking notice to the women's size which could indicate she has access to food. The second reason being for the amount of color in the room show, especially red. Red cloth was usually only bought by the wealthy due to how expensive it is to dye cloth red in the first place. Another reason is the room she's in itself, its quite spacious and quite decorated, which indicates they had the funds or power to do so. When looking in the background it can be assumed that the women standing is also wealthy due to the amount of clothes she's wearing and the color of them. 
      The first thing we noticed as a class was the nude women laying on a couch with her head turned towards, and her eyes looking at you. Then in the background there are two women, one appears to be a darker women and she is on her knees. The other women is standing over her with her sleeves rolled up. Immediately you wonder what's going on in that scene. It can be interpreted that the standing woman is reprimanding the darker-skinned woman who is kneeling, while the nude women literally has her back turned towards what is happening. This is symbolic of a current issue where high and mighty individuals can be oblivious to the inequalities and mistreatment of people in the lower classes.
      Venus of Urbino is a definite example of the gap between monetary classes and people with power and those without money and power. The scene going on in the background shows a darker skinned women being punished with a wealthy nude women in the fore front not even paying any mind to it.

How Do You Use Online Photography?
   
I utilize online photography almost everyday. Preferably through social networking sites like Instagram and Twitter. Usually on Instagram I'll post a picture of me and my friends and of course the occasional "selfie", whereas Twitter I may post something a picture about a current event or just a funny picture I thought my followers would laugh at. I'm more particular about what pictures I post on Twitter because I have a public account and can't control who see's my posts. But, when I post pictures on Instagram I'm less picky because I have a private Instagram account and I know who follows me.
